To travel inside the city you have multiple options: six subway lines, more than one hundred bus lines (colectivos) and urban railroad services (trains).
Subway (Subte)
It is the fastest means of transportation in the city. It expands 45 km. (28 miles) with 80 stations.
There is a flat fare that you pay at the booth where you buy the tickets. One ticket per trip. Price is $.70 and it runs Monday-Saturday from 6 AM till 11 PM and Sundays from 8 AM till 10 PM. Subway Passes (Magnetic Cards for one or more trips) can be purchased at the booths in each station.
Each "pass" can be used as a transfer between other subway lines.
Transportation in the city of Buenos Aires
Taxi
Taxis and car service are very popular because they are safe and cheaper than in other cities. There is a meter that starts at $1.12 plus an additional $.14 every 200 meters. You must pay what the meter indicates at the end of the trip.
There are also radio-taxis that you can call via telephone and they'll pick you up where ever you may be. This is a safer alternative depending on where you are at that moment and the time of the day.
Car service (remise) is very similar to the radio-taxi. The only difference is that the vehicles are operated privately and the fare depends on the distance you travel (no meter).
Buses
They are called 'micros' or 'colectivos' and they are one of the most popular means of transportation in Buenos Aires. The fare depends on the distance you travel. You pay inside the micro or colectivo. You must put the money (coins) in the slot in order to get a ticket (these machines give you back change, so you do not have to have exact change). You get on through the front door of the bus and get off through the back door.
Some bus lines have a special service called 'diferencial'. This service includes air condition, but the fare is more expensive.
Train
Trains are very convenient to travel within the Capital City and specially to the Gran Buenos Aires (suburbs). Fare varies depending on the distance you travel. You have to buy the tickets at the train station.
